Broadening Your Perspective

Working at BeachMint has been a phenomenal experience for me. It’s hard to believe that my internship has come to an end so quickly. At first, I was really hesitant because all of my other friends were taking OEM or MCE courses during the summer so I felt like I was making a mistake by coming back to California. But I’m so glad that I took the opportunity to work at BeachMint and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else.

BeachMint has been a classroom in itself for me over the past four weeks. From learning how to manage a website, researching new products and ideas that were actually implemented on the shopping site, to seeing how inventory is managed, I’ve gained so much new insight and experience as an entrepreneur during my short stay here. Working on different projects with Jason gave me an opportunity to dip my foot in all of the different operations and aspects that are necessary for a successful business. Some of the projects allowed me to implement the skills and knowledge that I learned during my freshman year at Babson. Some of the other projects were new concepts that I hadn’t tackled before, but it gave me an opportunity to push my boundaries and challenge myself to try new things. Every bit of my time spent as an intern, in both the small and big obstacles I faced, allowed me to elevate myself as an entrepreneur. Being in an environment where innovation is constantly nurtured and new concepts are quickly developed into tangible results has encouraged me to broaden my perspectives to see bigger, higher, wider, and deeper possibilities.

As a freshman, it can be cumbersome and difficult to find an internship. But Babson provides so many resources that help freshmen, like me, to be connected to internships. Look out for these opportunities and take them because they are absolutely worth it. Don’t be afraid to reach out to companies because you think you’re under-qualified. Be confident as you market yourself but also be sure to open yourself up to learning and absorbing new things. During my short time at BeachMint, I’ve had the chance to reflect on the type of businesswoman that I want to be and discover new ways that I want to leave an imprint in my community. I hope that my experiences as an intern at BeachMint can encourage others to embrace new challenges and turn them into opportunities that can elevate yourself and your standards as an entrepreneur.
